New specs and details were released recently but more has come to light with machines starting to ship. Apples new Mac-Pro is based on the Nahalem Intel chip set that has more connectors also know in the PC world as Core i7. The new case as seen in the video is nice for the one and only time anyone is ever going to go inside the box but as Engadget says in their review “not particularly affordable”. So what are you paying for it’s not the processor as you can find an Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66Ghz Quad Core processor for $US293 and it comes with a three year warranty. Maybe it’s all the copper in the heat sinks or the environmentally sound box that makes into a tank or at least as heavy as one, but recyclable. Also know as a cheese grater, that will out last you and the planet maybe it’s all the jet fuel used to fly these beast from China. Most long term Apple commercial buyers like designers that have not already moved over to using an iMac instead of a Mac Tower Pro (should bring back acronym G5) may now do so, as the exchange rate puts this puppy Apple G7 further from reality. Apple retail Price $4499 our price around around $4150** plus configure, QA, transfer and install. **Prices subject to change please contact us for an updated quote.

From any view, the new iMac is impressive with faster graphics, ram and more upgradable than before. But little compares to sitting in front of the glossy widescreen display framed in amazingly slim anodised aluminium. iMac instantly turns your workspace from a cluttered desktop into a brilliant display podium. For young people moving into thier first appartment don’t bother buying a TV, DVD player or video recorder because for as little as an additional $150 you can get your iMac to do this too HERE.

The faster graphics card is well received for those of us that use a Mac Mini as a Media Center can now use it as a gaming machine as well. More ram is also welcomed as 2Gb was limiting on the previous Mac Mini and so is the Firewire 800 port allowing access to 1-4.5TB larger external hard drives. What is disappointing is the slower 5400rpm rather than 72000rpm hard drive but we offer this as an update. What we are excited about is you may be able to run two screens but we will need to investigate this further as we await our dealer demo units.
Looks good and responds fast to surfer clicks. The shotcuts such as Apple-T are still there, so the surfer experience is familiar… with a few graphical differences such as the tabs are now in the header of the page – thereby saving a whole line of screen real-estate.
The Top Sites is a great first graphical list of the most popular sites in your history (no page-load) and the search feature is cool how it goes into “Cover Flow” mode.
Safari 4 beta doesn’t handle DHTML to well yet. WordPress 2.7.1 locked up the page when trying to add a url using DHTML…. so maybe it’s not time to upgrade yet.
